Kids Voting
The Asheville Civitan Club partnered with Kids Voting of Buncombe County to help involve young
people in the voting process. Kids "took" their parents to the polling places in Buncombe County
where special voting booths were set up just for them.
The Asheville Civitan Club was the first service club to volunteer its support and its
offer to staff "Election Central" was accepted with great appreciation.
The Club's effort was spearheaded by Co-chairs ALAN GIBSON and CARLA SUTHERLAND.
A steering committee was appointed which held several planning sessions (three of which
were luncheon meetings generously hosted by President SAWYER)
where BARBARA WHITAKER, the Club's representative on the "Kids Voting" Board of Directors,
gave reports on over-all progress and our Co-chairs led the planning for our
participation.
Team captains from the club who provided leadership: MARY ALICE CHUTTER, ballot checkers;
ROGER HILL, telephones; and DICK RICHARDS and JIM SEYLER, runners.

Day, 2000.
